Sally Decker and Brendan Glasson present a new multichannel sound composition, ouroboros. Since early August, Sally and Brendan have been crafting a site-specific piece that dives deep into acoustic feedback within Audium’s one-of-a-kind space. This unique composition transforms acoustic feedback into a sonic representation of the ouroboros—a snake devouring its own tail.

Night #1 of the SFEMF, presented at Audium, features three unique works of spatial sound art composed specifically for Audium’s 176 surround speakers. Danishta Rivero’s Heretical Voicings bathes the audience in Rivero’s live voice, which modulates processes for sound spatialization and signal processing. Ronald Peabody’s AFRICALIEN, uses recorded brainwaves of an elderly trauma survivor to guide an immersive exploration of beauty in confusion. Sally Decker and Brendan Glasson’s site-specific work explores the qualities and trajectories of movement through timbre, pitch, and dynamics.

Wonder what Audium sounded like in the 70s?

Audium VI rewinds audiences back to 1975. Originally composed on tape by Audium co-founder Stan Shaff, this piece premiered in October 1975 at the grand opening of Audium’s home on 1616 Bush Street.

Fast forward 50 years, much has changed technology-wise, but Audium’s original aesthetic remains intact. Now, following in his dad’s footsteps, David Shaff has reworked his father’s sounds for Audium’s current system and will perform each night.
